Bosch Firmware 19.54.0 and 19.55.0: Performance Update 2.0 and EBTsmart Unlock Key Compatibility

In early May 2026, Bosch rolled out the Performance Update 2.0 for the Bosch Smart System after Drive Unit firmware 19.24.0. This update introduced firmware version 19.54.0, followed shortly afterwards by firmware version 19.55.0. The later 19.55.0 release appears to be a smaller follow-up update with optimisations, minor adjustments and bug fixes. Most importantly for MountainTuning customers: the EBTsmart Unlock Key has been compatible with the new firmware generation since 6 May 2026.

What changed with Bosch Performance Update 2.0?

Bosch Performance Update 2.0 is one of the most relevant software updates for the Bosch Smart System in 2026. With Drive Unit firmware 19.54.0, Bosch introduced a new software level for current Smart System e-bikes, especially BES3 systems and many modern Gen5 configurations.

Unlike a simple maintenance update, firmware 19.54.0 is connected to a broader development of the Bosch Smart System platform. It affects the software logic of the drive unit, motor behaviour, assistance characteristics and internal system communication.

For riders using browser-based unlocking solutions, the central question was clear: does the EBTsmart Unlock Key still work after the update from firmware 19.24.0 to 19.54.0 and 19.55.0? The answer is yes.

Firmware 19.54.0: the new reference point after 19.24.0

The EBTsmart Unlock Key is a digital licence code for compatible Bosch Smart System e-bikes. It is not a USB stick, not a dongle and not a chip. The unlock key is a personal licence code in the format XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX.

Activation is performed through a browser-based platform via USB connection. No local software installation, no motor disassembly and no additional tuning hardware are required.

EBT Unlock Key for Bosch Gen1 to Gen4: not for Smart System

It is important not to confuse the EBTsmart Unlock Key with the classic EBT Unlock Key. Firmware versions 19.54.0 and 19.55.0 apply to the Bosch Smart System. Older Bosch Gen1 to Gen4 e-bikes on BES1 / BES2 use a different platform and require the classic EBT Unlock Key instead.

The classic EBT Unlock Key is not compatible with Bosch Smart System / BES3 and not compatible with ABS-equipped bikes.
