Important Notice Regarding E-Bike and E-MTB Tuning

Please be aware that modifying your e-bike or e-mountain bike through tuning – whether by software or hardware – may have significant legal, technical, and safety implications depending on your country or region.

Legal Considerations

  • Loss of street-legal status:
In many countries, tuning removes the vehicle’s classification as a standard e-bike or pedelec. As a result, it may no longer be legally used on public roads or cycle paths.
  • Restricted use:
Tuned e-bikes are typically only allowed on private property or designated off-road tracks and competitions, depending on local regulations.
  • Possible legal consequences:
Operating a tuned e-bike in public may lead to legal issues, such as:
    • Requirements for vehicle registration, insurance, and a driver’s license
    • Violations of traffic and insurance laws
    • In some countries, using an unregistered or uninsured tuned vehicle may result in fines or penalties
  • No liability or insurance coverage:
In the event of an accident, insurance providers may deny coverage, and victim compensation programs may not apply. This could lead to personal liability for damages or injuries.
  • Warranty voiding:
Any tuning may void manufacturer warranties and affect consumer rights.

Technical and Safety Risks

  • Increased mechanical stress:
By removing speed limitations or altering motor behavior, your e-bike is exposed to greater loads on brakes, drivetrain, and electronics.
  • Accelerated wear and reduced safety:
Components may wear out faster, and performance could be compromised, especially at higher speeds for which the bike was not originally designed.

Use at Your Own Risk

Always check the laws and regulations in your country before making any modifications to your e-bike.
