Bosch Unlock Instructions – EBT Unlock Key & EBTsmart Unlock Key

Unlock your compatible Bosch e-bike directly in the browser – no chip, no app, no motor disassembly.

The EBT Unlock Key is the browser-based licence solution for many compatible Bosch Gen1, Gen2, Gen3 and Gen4 BES1 / BES2 systems. The EBTsmart Unlock Key is the dedicated browser-based licence solution for compatible Bosch Smart System / BES3 bikes, including many setups with or without rim magnet. Firmware: Currently approved up to Bosch Drive Unit firmware 19.55.0.

All you need is your licence key, a supported browser, a stable internet connection and a proper USB data cable.

Before You Start

• Supported devices: PC, Mac or Android smartphone
• Supported browsers: current Chrome, Edge or Safari
• Required cable: proper USB data cable, not charge-only
• Connection: stable internet connection
• Bike battery: sufficiently charged before activation

Compatibility overview:

• EBT Unlock Key is intended for many compatible Bosch Gen1–Gen4 BES1 / BES2 bikes.
• EBT Unlock Key is not compatible with Bosch Gen1 HMI, Bosch Smart System / BES3 or ABS-equipped bikes.
• EBTsmart Unlock Key is intended for Bosch Smart System / BES3, including many configurations with or without rim magnet.
• On ABS-equipped Smart System bikes, the EBTsmart Unlock Key supports up to 32 km/h only. The optional 45 km/h mode is not available with ABS.

Important display note:

• EBT Unlock Key / Gen1: on supported Gen1 setups, display values remain correct.
• EBT Unlock Key / Gen2–Gen4 BES2: displayed riding values are typically divided while riding. This is normal system behaviour.
• EBTsmart Unlock Key / Smart System: in 32 km/h mode, speed, distance and mileage remain correct. In the optional 45 km/h mode, displayed values are no longer accurate from around 22 km/h.

Step-by-Step: How the Browser Activation Works

Step 1: Turn on your e-bike and connect it to your PC, Mac or Android device using a proper USB data cable.

Step 2: Order your MountainTuning licence online – either EBT Unlock Key or EBTsmart Unlock Key, depending on your Bosch system.

Step 3: Receive your invoice and your personal 25-character licence code by email.

Step 4: Open the browser-based unlock platform: ebts.unlocked.bike.

Step 5: Allow the browser to connect to your Bosch bike or display.

Step 6: The platform reads your e-bike configuration and shows the detected system.

Step 7: Start entering your licence code exactly as received.

Step 8: Enter the full code with hyphens and without spaces.

Step 9: Your licence is activated and linked to the connected bike.

Step 10: Please wait while the configuration is written to the system.

Step 11: Choose your tuning options. On Smart System bikes, this may include the 32 km/h mode and, where supported, the optional 45 km/h mode.

Step 12: Confirm the desired unlock option and activate the derestriction.

Step 13: The unlock is now active. You can also return to the original state later via the same platform.

Step 14: Done – your MountainTuning browser-based unlock is ready to use.

Supported Bosch Motor Systems

• Gen1 BES1 – Bosch Classic Line / Classic+ (except Gen1 HMI)
• Gen2 BES2 – Active Line, Performance Line, Performance Line CX

• Gen4 BES2 – classic Gen4 systems with round charging connector
• Gen4 BES3 – Bosch Smart System Gen4 setups
• Gen5 BES3 – Bosch Smart System Gen5 setups

Not compatible with EBT Unlock Key: Bosch Gen1 HMI, Bosch Smart System / BES3 and ABS-equipped bikes.

Important Smart System note: On Bosch Smart System bikes, the EBTsmart Unlock Key supports many compatible configurations with or without rim magnet. On ABS-equipped bikes, only the 32 km/h mode is available.

Important Notice

Unlocking your Bosch motor changes the technical classification of the bike. Public-road use without proper registration, insurance or approval may be illegal in many countries. Always check your local regulations before use.
