This package includes 2 EBTsmart Unlock Keys for compatible Bosch Smart System / BES3 e-bikes. Depending on the selected mode, motor assistance can be increased to up to 32 km/h or, where supported, optionally to up to 45 km/h – without additional hardware, without motor disassembly and without software installation.
In 32 km/h mode, speed, distance and mileage remain accurate. In the optional 45 km/h mode, displayed values are no longer accurate from around 22 km/h. This gives you the choice between a cleaner display logic and a wider unlock range.
The EBTsmart Unlock Key is designed specifically for Bosch Smart System bikes and supports many configurations with or without rim magnet. It also covers many special setups such as DualBattery, e-Shift and numerous Bosch display / remote combinations.

32 km/h mode vs 45 km/h mode
One of the biggest strengths of the EBTsmart Unlock Key is that it does not force every Bosch Smart System rider into the same setup.
- 32 km/h mode: Motor assistance is increased to up to 32 km/h. In this mode, speed, distance and mileage remain accurate.
- 45 km/h mode: Depending on the bike and configuration, motor assistance can optionally be increased to up to 45 km/h. In this mode, displayed values are no longer accurate from around 22 km/h.
This means you can choose between a more conservative unlock with clean display behaviour and a more performance-oriented mode with a wider support range.
Important Information & Tips
- Please enter the licence key with hyphens and without spaces.
- Use a fully functional USB data cable, not a charging-only cable.
- Depending on the bike, the USB port may be located on the display, the remote or the controller in the top tube.
- The activation process may take several minutes.
- Before starting, make sure your computer or smartphone and the e-bike battery are sufficiently charged.
- After activation, the riding profiles should be configured correctly in the eBike Flow app.
- You can return to the original 25 km/h limit at any time and reactivate the unlock later if needed.
- The optional 45 km/h mode can be selected repeatedly where supported, but it is not available for bikes with ABS.
- Once a licence code has been used, it is excluded from refund.
- If minor bugs occur, they are documented and considered in future updates.
Compatibility
Important note on BDU identification for Bosch Smart System:
For Bosch Smart System bikes, general labels such as “CX”, “Performance Line” or even “Smart System” are often not precise enough to identify the exact configuration. In many cases, the specific BDU code is the better reference point. The BDU is Bosch’s internal designation for the drive unit and helps distinguish between motor families and technical variants.
In everyday use, shortened family names such as BDU31, BDU33, BDU37 or BDU38 are common. These usually refer to broader BDU families rather than one exact version. As a result, a short label such as BDU37 may cover several specific sub-variants.

Why this matters:
A shortened BDU label such as BDU31 or BDU37 can be useful for basic orientation, but it is often not detailed enough for a full compatibility decision. The final assessment depends on the exact combination of BDU, rim magnet, ABS, e-Shift and the overall Bosch Smart System setup. If you are unsure, check the exact BDU code in the eBike Flow app before ordering.
